Mathematics K-6
Textbooks and instructional resources that are being recommended to the Board of Education are currently on public display until May 13th when the Board is slated to vote on the new adoption. A formal presentation will be made by the adoption committee at the Education Workshop on April 22nd. The presentation and course guides will be posted to this portal on April 22nd. To review the textbooks, please visit the district's central offices during business hours (7:30 am - 4:00 pm, M-F).
The following list contains course guides for the K-6 academic curriculum adoption. The full curriculum documents will be written by teachers during the summer for Board approval prior to the start of the academic year.
English Language Arts - Common Core
The following links are to course guides for a number of English/Language Arts courses that are under revision to ensure alignment with the PA Common Core State Standards for the start of the 2013-2014 academic year. Additionally, a new K-3 reading intervention program is being proposed. Hard copies of materials associated with the intervention program and new nonfiction books for grades 3 & 4 are on public display in the MASD Central Offices located at 8353 University Blvd., Moon Township, PA, for a minimum of 30 days beginning with the Education Workshop on March 25, 2013. Additionally, there are a few courses that will experience a course name change for the 2013-2014 academic year, without any changes to curriculum or textbook materials. They are as follows:
Honors Biology 2 will become Honors Anatomy and Physiology. This course name change is recommended to provide more detail about the actual course content on a transcript that is reviewed by higher education institutions.
Reading and Writing Workshop, where different content is taught during the fall and spring courses, will be split into two separate course names to prevent students from taking the same semester content twice. The new course names will be Reading and Writing Workshop 1 and Reading and Writing Workshop 2.
